How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent Part 2.

After reading part two of the book How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent by Julia Alvarez, I realized that there is a pattern for each of the parts. Part one is about how they have lost their innocence completely. While part two is about how they begin their journey in the United States and slowly bring to lose their innocence. I am predicting that part three will be about how they are in the Dominic Republic and they have innocence. Now part two talks about each girl is every vignette and how boys and the new culture is changing. Also how they are adapting to the United States.

The culture in the story has a big impact. All the girls innocence came from their culture but then when they move to the United States they have to learn about a whole new culture. They have to adapted to what is coming for them in this world. All the girls start to rebel at one point of the story. For example, they started to experiment with weed, and be more attracted with boys and going out. After a year in the country, the family had gotten use to their new homes and when the girls start to go to school it is when all the madness begins because that is where they learn most. Also, they would learn when they walked home or how they are socializing. When they start to adapt to the United States they have forgotten what their culture back in the Dominic Republic so, they lose their innocence because they lose their culture and approval fro their father.

In addition, during class today my group have though that the title has a very big connection with the story because when the author says accent it is inferring to the girls innocence. The reason I believe this is true is because when you lose your accent it is like losing your culture and now people are unable to tell where you came from. When you lose an accent you have to gain a new way of talking as in this book it is a new way of living. They have to change their lives like people have to change languages when you move into a new country.
