ESSAY BRUH. its DONE. I am DONE with the GARCIAS. They are DONE!

People might come from the same culture, where men are powerful and women are forced to give up their lives but they can have different endings. In the  book How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent by Julia Alvarez and House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisnero. These two books are based on the same topic but have different endings. Both the books show a story about women who are empowered, dealing with their culture and the men in their lives, they have to face these problems in their daily lives and have to find a way to overcome them. These stories have similar begins but the ending is very different from each other.
In the books they are based on the culture that are in the characters lives. The culture in both books are similar to each other because it is from a place where men are in control and women listen to demands. These character both come from a place of poverty and having to fit into the “American life style”. But these stories does not have the same ending that people expect because both books went opposite direction in the end. In the book How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent, the women in the story left their culture behind. Throughout the book the author discusses that the women are branching out of their homes and finding men outside of their culture. The girls start to rebel on their culture and become more into the American life with going out and dating guys. The girls start to become independent and have the power to control their lives and do whatever they want that is best for them. When they felt their culture, they had to learn a lot about the outside world but it was better for them because now they are able to do whatever they want with no one holding them down. Unlike the women in House on Mango Street, where the culture is similar the Garcia Girls but the girls where forced to listen to every single word the men say. In this story the culture was more powerful and it had full control of the girls lives. They were never able to revolt and leave, they were trapped in this town where they will soon have to marry at a young age and that is the end of their life because their freedom is gone. These books have culture similarity but the women in Garcia Girls were more in control of their lives and was able to revolt and start a whole new life, not like House on Mango Street who were trapped into a culture that will never let them leave.
In addition in both of the books, the women have trouble with men but one book is able to solve their problems unlike the other. In How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent, the girls are able to leave the dominant men when they left their culture. Those men were their past now because they are able to find other men who are able to treat them better and give them a choice, “ ‘I’ll always love you!’ he said, splurging. ‘Marry me, marry me.’”(70). This shows that the girls are able to branch out to a new culture and love a men who is not dominant and control. The men was able to give them some freedom and the girls were happy with that, even though they have some problems with men they always had a way to solve it. On the other hand on House on Mango Street, the girls are forced to stay at home and learn how to do housework and marry men form their culture. For example, “Sally got married like we knew she would, young and not ready but married just the same”(101). This explains that the girls are forced to stay in their culture and marry at a young age, they are giving up everything. That is what most girls do in their culture and it does not change. These two books show what to do and what not to do. They are explains of how people are able to leave or stay in a culture where men are the dominant group and they gets to call all the shots.
Also, in these two books it shows that women are low on power but it is based on them and their story. The stories is in favor of the men also, it describes a lot about culture and where they came from. The structure of the story is very similar to each other and have a passage of leading to our society now and how everyone is rebelling. Or some people are staying into their culture but they are suffering. The books tell two different stories about how life can end and how people are able to choice what kind of life they want instead of being trapped into a box by men. The books are a great way to learn about lives that a chosen for the girls and how they have to work with what they have in life. Furthermore, it shows that women need to step p and take power so they are able to get their life into order and call it there own.
In conclusion, both stories gives an example of what is happening in out society. The story is mostly based on women and how they suffering in their daily life. The books talk about many topics about culture, men, and enforcement of power. In society women need to take charge so men will not walk over them and think they are the in full control. Us, women have to stand up and become independent and learn from House on Mango Street and How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent.

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent Part THREE BRUH.

The story of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent was an interesting book... I did not like it as much as I was planning to. The book did not had a flow or a hook that I wanted to catch my eye. Instead the story had a flow that was boring, there was no WOW factor in the book, it just moved topic to topic. I still have no idea why the author chose the way she organized her story, it was just plain confusing. Even though I did not enjoy the book, I did kinda understand so point of the story and it catch my eyes at times.

The ending of the story was like a ‘what?...’ moment for me. The book ended with a cat past away. At first that is what I thought, it was just another dying cat but when we had the class discussion, I realized that the cat had a bigger meaning. The cat represent the four sisters and all the pain and sadness they are feeling. The cat is their feelings and what they are hiding form their family and everything they want to say but they can not. When the cats come back it means they have to face all those feelings again and have to find a way to get rid of it. Also, it is the emotions the four girls about their parents and they sadness. The act is their pain.

Furthermore, the ending of the book talks about why the family have decided to move to the states. Also how the girls grew up to shape them and who they are meant to be. The girls did not get much attention from the parents so they feel abandon. When the Yoyo sold herself for clay it shows that she was not that smart even though it says she was smart, there are certain kind of smartness and she is only smart by using her words. The girls had a rough life but they found a way to get rid of the pain and were able to have each other backs, they were always there for each other.

Vlog problems. Tumblr is love.

Mr. Sutherland I failed...The video blog did not work out so well some of my work got deleted and I still have a lot of work to do and do not want to rushing my work. Plus, I need a lot of help but I want to show you what I have on Monday. I need advice.

Now, I am going to talk about Tumblr. My new found love.

Dear Tumblr,

I love you. You make my whole life so much easier. You put my feelings into words. You are always there for me when I have no one and makes me feel that I am not alone and hundreds of people are feeling the same way as me. I fill complete because I have you in my life Tumblr. You are something that I can actually called mine. You let me customize you any way I want and let me re-blog as many post as I want.

Without you Tumblr I do not know what I would do. I know I have a blog here but it is not the same. You understand me. It is crazy because you are just a website, but it is love. You make me laugh, smile, cry, and etc, my day get so much better when I get online and just read all the blog post and it makes me fill happy inside that I am not alone.

When I first started of at Tumblr I did not know much except it is a website where you re-blog pictures but it was so much more. It was a community of people that share their lives and talking about our feelings. I know that shows really stupid but it helps out a lot. In addition, Tumblr keeps me up to date about everything and what is new in the world.

So, Tumblr I love you in my life. Don’t ever leave me or I would be very sad. Also do not turn into Facebook, that would be horrible and then I would have to stop seeing you and move on to something you. Tumblr, our relationship is solid lets keep it that way and stop being so gosh dang popular, I hate waiting to use Tumblr. It makes me mad and sad.

End of story, Tumblr you are my love.

Response to Karen

I was reading through some blogs and Karen’s blog really caught my eye. She said that is true and should be spoken about.
Why is it that it's okay for males to do these things and talk about it like in raps, etc. but for women it is frowned upon? Some people said because women end up with consequences like for example ending up pregnant. But my brother called her slut for playing them, not taking in any sexual activity. Some other people said because it's more common for a girl to be the ones who are cheated on and get their heart broken and since it's kind of uncommon for guys to get their hearts broken, they get pity. I still don't know why this happens.

I have the same question as Karen. Why are girls held in a higher standard than boys? Girls are judge by everything and except to be a polite and quiet person. I do not understand why. When a girl is wild and does not follow the rules, she is immediately called a whore or something defensive. But when boys are doing something wrong, they are usually getting away with it or given props from their friends.

In addition, when a girl date a lot or just really friendly, they are known as a slut and getting back stabbed by her friends. While boys date as many girls they want and they are called a player which is what they enjoy to be called. So, I never really understand why that is the problem. It is kinda wrong that girls are being called all these names and people do not understand it hurts them. Also, everything they do they are judge upon in a bad way while boys are judge differently and they like to be called that.

Finally, I do not understand that boys are allowed to disrespect girls without no one saying anything. Girls are shown as bitches and sluts so boys call them that as a way to name them. This is what my thought about this situation.

Sorry.. This not my best blog.. I am trying to editing my vlog.. I am kinda stuck.

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent Part 2.

After reading part two of the book How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent by Julia Alvarez, I realized that there is a pattern for each of the parts. Part one is about how they have lost their innocence completely. While part two is about how they begin their journey in the United States and slowly bring to lose their innocence. I am predicting that part three will be about how they are in the Dominic Republic and they have innocence. Now part two talks about each girl is every vignette and how boys and the new culture is changing. Also how they are adapting to the United States.

The culture in the story has a big impact. All the girls innocence came from their culture but then when they move to the United States they have to learn about a whole new culture. They have to adapted to what is coming for them in this world. All the girls start to rebel at one point of the story. For example, they started to experiment with weed, and be more attracted with boys and going out. After a year in the country, the family had gotten use to their new homes and when the girls start to go to school it is when all the madness begins because that is where they learn most. Also, they would learn when they walked home or how they are socializing. When they start to adapt to the United States they have forgotten what their culture back in the Dominic Republic so, they lose their innocence because they lose their culture and approval fro their father.

In addition, during class today my group have though that the title has a very big connection with the story because when the author says accent it is inferring to the girls innocence. The reason I believe this is true is because when you lose your accent it is like losing your culture and now people are unable to tell where you came from. When you lose an accent you have to gain a new way of talking as in this book it is a new way of living. They have to change their lives like people have to change languages when you move into a new country.

Basketball is my favorite sport

Monday will be the day I will be trying out for basketball. I am so nervous. I have not played basketball for a couple months now but I have hope that I still got the skills and remember how to play the game. I know practicing is very crucial but I just have no time and hopefully I am able to just wing it and everything will be fine.

Basketball is one if the sports I am most confident with playing. I spent most my child hood playing basketball with my brother or at a youth center I used to go to. I used to play basketball almost everyday but then I got lazy and really busy with school. Basketball was now not part of my life but I want it to be. This is why I want to play this year and to get in fit. It is a great way to work out. I never know why I enjoy playing basketball cause I hate running and balls but basketball has always been the sport that I never hated.

I hate my height. Everyone is always taller than me when I play basketball. People always think I suck cause I am short. I hope that is not true. I really want to grow like 5 inches through so, I can be beasting on all the players but I cant. I am only 4’11, very short and can not beast on anyone yet. Sadly, I will never get taller so I will have to work around my height and figure out a way to beast on everyone in a different way.

I need to find a way to chill out cause I am really nervous and it is not even Monday. My mind is like freaking out. What do I bring? What time? What am I going to do? AHHH. So many questions. My mind wants to explode. I hate tryouts... It is like you only get one chance to do the best you can and if you dont then you are screwed and you can not play. So much pressure.. I hate that. I seriously need to find a way to calm myself cause this is not healthy. This weekend will be long.

This is not a very interesting blog. Sorry Mr. Sutherland. I am still trying to figure out the article you sent me. Then I will start on my blog on Prop 19.

Where is the freakin justice?

At the moment my mind is spinning. I do not understand the ‘justice system’. Where is the justice? I was reading Ruby’s blog and I started to get angry with every sentence I read.

“Today is November 5, 2010 and the judge has decided to sentence him two years jail time with credit of 292 days, meaning he will serve under two years for killing Oscar Grant. Oakland is pissed.”

Mehrelse gets 2 freakin years. That is not fair at all. It just shows how cops are able get away with anything. What kind of world are we living in? Mehrelse cold blooded murdered Ocsar Grant. He should be getting life or at least 10 years in jail but no, he gets 2 years. It is not even 2 years, it is more like 1 year. One year for a young men life. Justice is not achieve today. For me, as a young person it shows that justice might never be serve in this system. We will never win. Our people will never get the justice we deserve and I hate it.

I do not blame Oakland for being pissed. They deserve to be angry. I am pissed. It is not fair a men is getting away with murder when there is a video showing he killed Oscar Grant. The people of Oakland does not understand how justice is serve, they are mad. They want to get their voice heard and rally what they believe is right. The injustice that has happen today, they need a way to express themselves and their angry. I hope there will be no riots or violence break out tonight.

At the moment, I am watching the news. The people of Oakland are marching the streets. Some people are being peaceful but others are destroying windows, cars, and vandalizing. To those people who are destroying our city, please don’t. They are not to blame for the death of Oscar Grant. They did not do anything, if you want to take your angry out or get your voice then give him a peaceful rally, honor him. Remind peacefully. Do not mess up someone’s business. Just give your respects.

How the Garcia Girl Lost Their Accents: Part UNO.

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents is not the most interesting book at first. As, I started to read the book, it was confusing. I did not know who was talking or what they are talking about. The Spanish was hard to read at time but as I kept on reading it got easier to understand. The beginning was really hard because I had to read the book with no knowledge of any real detail of the story. When, I start to get to the 3rd or 4th chapter the story was getting easier, I still did not know who was talking at times but I understand more as I kept reading.

The first part of the story is basically explaining how the family are living their lives. The 4 girls get to tell their story. Also, their connection with their parents, mostly the father. The family have a lot of drama, and everything happen fairly quick. The parents are more old school and the 4 sisters are more into the new generation where boys and going out is what they think about. The dad does not like that so much and is disappointed  because he believes the girls should stay home but that does not happen.

The setting effects the story a lot because of how different the life style is. In the Dominican Republic they are close to home and their culture and they would not lose their knowledge of where they came from. In the U.S. they have to adapt to a new culture and try to figure our a way to fit in to the world. They do not learn about their religion or anything about their culture. So, they start to lose their heritage and everything they learn back at home in Dominican Republic.

In conclusion, the story is based on lost of culture, like a lost on who the 4 sisters are. The sisters have gotten the “US culture” to get the best of them. I want to see if they are able to gain their heritage back. Also, make their parents proud of them and show that they can still be their little sisters, and not the girls they are disappointed on their action, so they need to prove it.
