Q's essay

Q’s character is that he follows the crowd, he does not think on his own instead he believes as the world change so, should he and learn from the people in his life to benefit him.

Q learns from his Uncle to take his revenge on other people and turns into someone like his Uncle. When he was a land creature and madly in love with his fiance Lll but Lll in the end fell in love with Uncle who is a water creature. Lll left Q for Uncle and joined him to live in the water. Q has learn from his Uncle because in the future, him as a dinosaur took Zahn’s(a creature called the New One) girl, “I grasped the Half-bleed by one paw, carrying her off under Zahn’s nose. First he watched us move away without understand, he was lost in his amorous contemplation, then he was siezed with jealous rage,” (110). This shows that Q knowledge from how his Uncle took his girl, Q does the same to Zahn. Q knew that he was taking Zahn’s girl but he did not care because he wanted to make Zahn and Fern-flower jealous. Just like what Uncle has done to Q by taking Lll away from him and making Q jealous because he wished that was him living the rest of his life with Lll but he can not. Q has learn from his Uncle to take what he wants to prove a point.

In addition, Q believes that Uncle should stop living in the water because no one lives in the water anymore. Uncle would not leave but Q always pressure Uncle to leave the water like Q and his family did. Q who was a water creature but evolve to a land creature because he thinks that he the new way to go in life. Q’s decision to live as a land creature is not based on what he believes but what others around him think that is right. Q is unable to make his own decision in his life instead is follows what is in the world and do what everyone is doing. He is not stable to take care of his own and realizes that if he follows what everyone is doing then he might fit in with the crowd. So, unlike his Uncle who is on his own and does what he wants, Q does by watching others do something and take their lead.

Finally as Q evolve in live, he is still following others and trying to keep up with what is new.  For example, Q is now a dinosaur but he is the last kind and is alone but there are a new born and he tries to fit in with them, “They gave me a nickname: “the Ugly one” because I was different from them, for no reason,”(pg.99) This explains that he is know changing his life style to fit in with the New Ones so he can fit in with the creatures and have someone he is able to communicate so, he would not be alone anymore. Q goes through a lot in his life to follow everyone so he does not feel lonely. Even though Q does not truly fit in with the New Ones he is still able to follow what they are doing so he has a home and have the same life style as them. Q has change his whole life just to fit in with the new creatures that evolve over time so, he would not have to face the world on his own.

Self-Esteem.

As, I was reading though blogs and Tram’s blog really caught my attention she talks about how comfortable she is with her body,

If I was granted a chance to change a body part, I would not take it. I am very comfortable with the body that I was given. But for the sake of the readers entertainment - you - and my perfect A, I would swamp my brain for a smarter and better functioning one. Let us be honest to each other here, my brain has minor glitches and a slow reflex response. Sometimes it even refuses to work at all. But it is fine, I am quite sanguine about it. I love the person I am and everything given to me since I was born. Sure, I whine and complain that I am not perfect and I would hate myself for 1 minute and 7 seconds but the truth is, There is not a thing that I would alter.

What Tram has said was very inspirational because she is able to be comfortable with her body and proud of what she is proud with. Not many people are comfortable of their bodies and believe they have to change to make themselves look better but the truth is they are pretty just the way they are. The human body is perfect in every shape and size and people should love their bodies and embrace it more and more everyday. I am not saying they should walk around naked or anything but they should just love themselves and should be proud what their mommas gave them.

High self-esteem is a significant aspect people need to live their life. Everyone needs to be able to love themselves and maybe at times they have moments like Tram who does not feel perfect but realizes those feelings are stupid because they are great. In addition, having high self-esteem is being able to joke around and not care of what people think about you. So, people should not care what others think about them and just embrace their beauty and do not complain about what their bodies look like. Be comfortable of who you are and understand that you are who you are and start loving yourself that is one of the best love you can ever have.

BTW. Tram Huynh you are beautiful just the way you are. :] I love you much grande. You better not alter yourself.

Ms.Valdez

Last year at ASTI we had an English teacher name Ms.Valdez. She was one of the most mmm..interesting teacher ever. Ms.Valdez always had to have it her way and be right no matter what. She even said “when I’m right I’m right and when I’m wrong, I’m still right,” that was Ms.Valdez for ya but she knew what she was doing well...sometimes. We read many books in her class and it always relates to rape except for Macbeth but I enjoyed reading in her class. She made reading more understandable and always found a deeper meaning in everything we read. Her essay’s were a pain to write but it got easier as the year goes on but Ms.Valdez never gave out A’s, it would be rare when she did.

I remember walking into her classroom and the temperature in that room would be horrible. It would always be crazy hot or freezing cold. When the class would complain about the temperature she would say, “If I’m comfortable than everyone is comfortable,” that classroom never felt comfortable. It used to smell really bad too, still does actually. That classroom always had food in it, Ms.Valdez love her food, her fridge was full of food that’s been there for weeks. It was her punishment to her students, mess with her and you would have to deal with her fridge, that thing stinks.

I have to admit she was an amazing teacher. I have learn so much in her class than I learn in all my years of middle school. She would always make class interesting and keep the class predictable. Also she was able to interpret the reading very clearly and lets us say whatever we want about the reading. She just wanted use to express ourselves as a student and help us find the bigger meaning in everything. One of the best thing about class was whenever anyone in the class would say something deep or say something she likes, she would go “mmmmm interesting” or “oooh i like! say more.” Freshman English would not be the same without Valdez and without her it would not be so memorable. Ms.Valdez was easy to talk to and did not care what anyone said about her because she loves herself. Ms.Valdez was a one of a kind teacher. She is missed at ASTI.

“Swagger-Style” Response

When I was reading Aleah’s blog post about “Swagger-Style”, I was trying to understand or figure out what she meant about Black or White dressing,

“Maybe its becuase I'm black but inter racial fashions annoy you? Sometimes I say this becuase ever since the saggin pance era started in person other than a black that was saggin hid pants, always had some negativecomment comming from them, But when Black guys start dressing like white guys with skinny jeans and skate boards no one sais anything. WHY IS THAT?”

    I was confusing on what she meant about interracial dressing. People are not define on how they are dressed because of race. In the society we live in there are different trends and everyone wants to stand out in their own way. Also, they should not be attacked for dressing differently or out of their “race”. Everyone is able to dress the way they want, it is a free country and most people wear the clothes they have because that is what they are able to buy.

Most people dress a certain way because they believe it is the style that is in right now. Dressing is different for everyone and a way to express themselves. In addition, most people dress the way that everyone is dressing in their area. The place they are living or the people around them is how they are able to learn how to dress. It has nothing to do with the color of our skin because you can go in the street and find a black and white person wearing the same thing and they might have the same personality. They are free to wear whatever they want and people should not say anything about it. It is just the way they want to dress.

In conclusion, Black and White dressing does not exist. Everyone is free to dress the way they want. “Race” is not something that tells people what they are able to wear, dressing up is a way we are able to express our creative side and show what we think what is style. So, I’m trying to understand what Aleah is trying to say but what she is saying is something that is not true. The truth is people are able to dress anyway they want and whatever they want, people would not care because they can find at least one person that dress the same as them.

Remarks by President Barack Obama

In President Obama speech he talked about how students had to take responsibility and how we are the future of our country. The responsibilities I have as a student is doing all my work and trying my best. Also, not giving on what I am doing and do what is needed of me. Obama talked about having goals for our future and that got me thinking on my goals for my education.

My goals are to study law and become successful in the things I do. I would like to get as far as I can with my studying and learn as much as I can. I don’t want my mistakes to bring me down but they should make me strong as a learner. I want to get as many opportunity as possible so I am able to support myself in the future. In the end, I just want to be able to go s far as I can with my education and learn everyday. Those are my goals in my education.

President Obama then talks about failures we have in life and how they can lead to success, and I completely agree with him because I learn most from failing. For instance, we had to do a paper in English class, we had to read the book Macbeth and it was written in old English so I hardly understand what I was reading when it was time to write the paper. I had no idea what to write it about because I didn’t understand the play. When I sat down and started to look for quotes and picking everything apart I started understanding the play and write my paper. I’ve learned if I put my mind to something and even if the book is hard I can use my read skills and be success at writing an essay.

In closing, President Obama wants us to think about our future and do not give up on what we are doing and just learn so we can make a better future. I know what I want to do in my future and I can see myself doing it. Also, I have all my goals that I want to do and complete in life so I am to be proud of myself. President Obama trying to make us set a goal for ourselves because he knows what is best for us.

Rebuttal: Born Gay PRO.
Is human sexuality determine by birth? My partner Jackson and I argue that it is. We are born knowing who we like or who not to like; we are unable to control who we are attracted to.  People are born with a trait knowing who they like. It is not something they can choose; what they feel is something inside them.

Our opponent has said in their opening statement,

“The word 'gay' has been used time and time again in the most negative form possible. Since society has welcomed this, homosexuality is now something that is frowned upon, and ridiculed. Most people who have had homosexual thoughts or feelings shun them and neglect them because they do not want to become the outcast in society's perfect aristocracy of people.”

They do not provide any evidence to support there opinion. What they have said is something that they believe ,but have no proof to support. I believe this supports out belief that sexual orientation is biologically chosen. People that are homosexual know that many people shun them for different reasons; Many of them probably wish they were heterosexual because of all the negativity directed towards them. If they cannot control the urge to be heterosexual, wouldn’t that mean it was chosen for them?

Also our opponent has said,

Even if a person is born straight, experimentation or curiosity can no doubt lead to being gay/lesbian

This shows that our opponent believes a person is born heterosexual, and that the person chooses his/her sexual orientation later in life. Although a person’s sexual orientation is not obvious, we believe it becomes who they are progressing in life, because they contain a trait that leads them toward their orientation. No person is able to make the choice of what their sexual orientation is; it is chosen for them. A person cannot choose their sexual orientation because their orientation is biologically chosen for them when they are born.

In closing, people are born with a sexual orientation. Even if they are born heterosexual or homosexual, they are born with a trait that has already determined their sexual orientation. A person cannot choose how they feel because it is biologically chosen for them.
